According to Paul Salkovskis, Professor
of Clinical Psychology & Applied Sciences at Kings
College Hospital in London, England, there are two popular
forms of panic disorder treatment including prescription
drugs and Cognitive & Behavioral Therapies.
He says prescription drugs may help
a lot of people however it is best to ween off them after
about a year instead of abruptly discontinuing them. This
is to help prevent a relapse of experiencing panic attacks.
The professor also says that the success rate of Cognitive
& Behavioral Therapy is about 85% making it a very
powerful form of treatment for panic disorder.
The Professor also states the differences
in a condition like Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD
and panic disorder. Panic disorder and panic attacks in
particular are extremely overwhelming for people in terms
of physical signs and symptoms. For example, someone experiencing
a panic attack may suffer from a pounding heartbeat, sweaty
palms, extreme jitters and a complete feeling of helplessness
or dread.
